Elim Night Shelter is proud to announce that we have started a building project which should be completed by end August 2022. The building will consist of 14 (fourteen) bedrooms, 4 (four) bathrooms, 2(two) kitchens and 2 (two) lounge areas, which could accommodate up to 21 (twenty-one) adults, including couples. The building (brick) and property, which is owned by Elim night Shelter, should be completed at a cost of R2,800.000.00(2.8 million Rands), which we are proud to say, has been saved from fundraisers and donations received for the past seven years. Elim Night Shelter hereby appeals to Corporate Entities and Individuals for assistance in either funding or purchasing much needed items. The funding requested, will assist us in furnishing the above property, with beds, kitchen appliances, a lounge suite and security. *Our urgent request for assistance, is due to an unfortunate and devastating DENIAL by the City of Cape Town for funding. The application for assistance was done after the City advertised a Grant in Aid for NGO’s working in the homeless sector. All documents including a business plan was presented to the City Of Cape Town and all procedures as instructed were followed. The Grant In Aid application was denied due to the fact that our recent TAX Clearance Certificate was not received from SARS due to a backlog on their side. Proof of this was presented in the form of correspondence between our auditors and SARS, unfortunately our appeal was also denied. The Grant In Aid was advertised and denied by:
THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN:Street People programme, Dept: Social DevelopmentDirectorate: Community Services and health for assistance.

The initiative was the vision of and started by Merriman Lion, Clive Fox in 2014. Its purpose was to create a consistent source of food for their feeding projects. He approached Elim with the proposal to utilize a section of ground to grow vegetables and that in doing so, opportunities for the residents to participate and develop skills in the field would be created. Elim accepted the proposal and the garden has flourished over the last few years. Two Elim residents, David and Cornelius currently manage and tend the garden.
